Plain AI is practical AI help delivered in plain English — built for small business owners who aren’t technical and don’t want to be. No jargon, no hype, no software pitch. It starts with your business problem, not with a tool, and it ends with one real task off your plate.
I built my consulting service at Uncle Ron Media around the term because the existing words were all wrong. “AI consulting” means enterprise projects with six-figure budgets. “AI tools” means another subscription you won’t open. There was no word for what owners actually need — somebody who speaks plain English, knows what AI genuinely does, and starts smaller than everyone else is comfortable admitting works. So: Plain AI.
The definition, properly
Plain AI has three rules. If any of them is missing, it’s not Plain AI — it’s a sales pitch wearing the name.
- Plain English, end to end. If you need a glossary to follow the conversation, the conversation has failed. You should understand every recommendation well enough to explain it to your spouse.
- The problem comes first, not the tool. It starts with what eats your week — the quoting, the follow-ups, the writing you keep putting off — and only then asks whether AI can take it. Sometimes the honest answer is no, and you should hear that too.
- One working win before any grand plan. Not a 40-page AI strategy. One task, actually handled, that you can feel by next week. Build from there or stop there — both are fine.

Neither lane is wrong. If you have 200 employees and a compliance team, hire the firm with the roadmaps. Plain AI exists for everyone else.
What Plain AI is not
- Not a software pitch. I don’t sell AI tools and I don’t take commissions on them. If the best answer is a free tool you already have, that’s the recommendation.
- Not a course. You’re not signing up to become a “prompt engineer.” The point is your business running lighter, not a new hobby.
- Not hype. AI is genuinely useful and genuinely overhyped at the same time. Plain AI lives in the gap between those two facts.
- Not magic. AI can’t fix a broken process — it automates whatever you feed it, including the mess. Part of the job is saying so before you spend money.
Where this comes from: I run my own business this way
This isn’t a service I invented for other people and skipped myself. I’m not technical by trade; I came up through TV, hospitality, and graphic design.
